SPAIN: PROINVERSIÓN PROMOTES PORTFOLIO OF 63 PROJECTS FOR MORE THAN US$ 15.6 BILLION
Lima, October 15, 2024.- Before European investors, the Private Investment Promotion Agency - PROINVERSIÓN presented a portfolio of 63 projects to be awarded in Peru between 2025 - 2026 through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and Projects in Assets (PA) for more than US$ 15.6 billion.
The agency started today the Roadshow Spain 2024, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Peruvian Embassy, the Commercial Office in Madrid (OCEX Madrid) and PROMPERU to promote investments in road infrastructure, sanitation, irrigation, mining, health, education and airports available in Peru in Madrid, Seville and Barcelona.
At the event, which began today in Madrid, the investment portfolio was presented and bilateral meetings were held with investors and construction companies, experienced operators and financiers linked to investments in Public-Private Partnership projects.
The activities at the Roadshow Spain 2024 are led by the Director of Project Portfolio, Emerson Castro, and the Director of Decentralized Investments, Denisse Miralles, who will present the project portfolio, legal framework and investment attraction mechanisms such as the Regime for Early Recovery of IGV (RERA-IGV), legal stability agreements and the registration of foreign investment.
As well as the operation and results registered by the Works for Taxes (OxI) mechanism before representatives of parent companies with investments established in Peru, as well as construction companies and engineering consulting firms that may be contractors.
Portfolio promotion
In breaking down the portfolio, the agency presented 17 sanitation projects, with a total value of more than US$ 2.4 billion, aimed at improving access to drinking water and wastewater treatment in 12 Peruvian departments, benefiting more than seven million people through the Ilo desalination plant (US$ 171 million), the Trujillo Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) (US$ 398 million) and the Huancayo WWTP (US$ 267 million), among others.
In education, five projects for more than US$ 600 million are highlighted, aimed at improving infrastructure in Lima and Cusco. These include the Schools at Risk in Metropolitan Lima (US$ 255 million) and the infrastructure reinforcement project for schools in Cusco (US$ 59 million) to be awarded in 2025.
The portfolio includes transport projects valued at more than US$ 3,974 million, such as the Longitudinal de la Sierra Section 4 (US$ 1,542 million), a road corridor that seeks to improve connectivity in the interior regions of the country. Also noteworthy is the Chimbote International Port Terminal project (US$ 245 million), which will enhance the logistics capacity of this important coastal city.
The health sector also plays a key role in PROINVERSIÓN's portfolio, with six projects valued at more than US$ 1.1 billion, aimed at improving services in four regions. These include the operation and maintenance project for the new Villa El Salvador Emergency Hospital (US$ 290 million) and the National Institute of Child Health (US$ 125 million).
The irrigation sector is another growth driver with projects such as the III stage of Chavimochic (US$ 450 million), the Comprehensive Water System of the Chancay Valley - Lambayeque (US$ 550 million) and the Chinecas Project (US$ 750 million), which are essential for agricultural expansion and sustainable development in the country.
The portfolio includes two important real estate projects under the Projects in Assets category, valued at US$ 800 million: Ancon Industrial Park (US$ 762 million) and operation and maintenance of the Lima Convention Center (US$ 78 million).
To date, between January and September, PROINVERSIÓN awarded 12 projects through Public-Private Partnerships and Projects in Assets, for US$ 6,074 million, including road, port, electricity, non-metallic mining and railway mega-projects. Of this total, Spanish companies have been awarded four projects: Peripheral Ring Road (US$ 3,396 million) and three electricity projects (Group 1) for US$ 391 million.
In addition, PROINVERSIÓN officials promoted El Algarrobo subway mining project, located in Tambogrande - Piura, with a total project value of US$ 2,753 million. The amount is broken down into investments of US$ 759 million and operating expenses of US$ 1,994 million in the first 10 years.
El Algarrobo is a copper, zinc and silver polymetallic project, which will start with production of 5,000 tons per day and then scale up to 15,000 tons per day. Likewise, the feasibility studies will determine the actual size of the project, which may be larger in scale than initially estimated.
