OECD EVALUATES PERU ON RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS CONDUCT AS PART OF ACCESSION PROCESS
Lima, July 18, 2024.- Between July 15 and 17, the Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) and the National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct in Peru before the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), received a mission from the international entity with the aim of learning more about our policies and practices in Responsible Business Conduct.
In addition, the delegation, made up of three OECD officials, was able to gather information that will help identify opportunities to improve the country's compliance with the standards promoted by the organization.
It should be noted that the accession process has a methodology and, as part of it, Peru has been attending the visit of fact-finding missions, whose task is focused on evaluating the willingness and ability to implement OECD recommendations, as well as the practices and policies compared with standards promoted by the organization among its member countries.
In this regard, Peru is committed to meeting the recommendations made by the OECD through 24 committees that analyze our candidacy for membership and may include changes at the level of legislation, policies and practices in order to bring the country closer to the process of adhering to the organization's standards. In this case, these are those that correspond to the Working Group on Responsible Business Conduct of the Investment Committee.
Peru needs to have the favorable opinion of these committees to become a full member of the OECD, whose objective is to work on the design and promotion of public policies that promote the well-being of people. This forum for discussion, analysis, exchange and dissemination of experiences brings together 38 States that represent more than 70% of the world's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
During its visit to the country, the OECD mission held several technical meetings with stakeholders interested in responsible business conduct policies that avoid negative environmental and social impacts and contribute to sustainable development. In this regard, the working sessions were attended by representatives of the Executive Branch, business associations, trade unions, civil society organizations, indigenous peoples, delegations from OECD countries, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The development of the meetings was supported by the High Representative of Peru for the accession process, Ambassador Ana Rosa Valdivieso, and the team of the Technical Secretariat of the Multisectoral Commission Peru-OCDE.
