PROINVERSIÓN AWARDED SIX PROJECTS FOR MORE THAN US$ 5 BILLION IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2024
Lima, July 1, 2024.- In the first half of 2024, the Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) awarded six projects for US$ 5.07 billion through Public-Private Partnerships and Projects in Assets, in the areas of ports, road infrastructure, electric power and phosphates-fertilizers, respectively.
The amount of investment is the highest in the last 10 years and is double the US$ 2332 million recorded for the whole of 2023. It also represents an increase of 60% of the portfolio planned by the agency for this year, which is estimated at US$ 8 billion.
As a result, the agency awarded 20 public-private projects for US$ 7402 million in the last 18 months (January 2023 - June 2024) in electric power, telecommunications, health, port, mining and roads.
Regarding this important rebound, the executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, Jose Salardi, commented that it is a clear sign of the confidence that exists among investors for the Public-Private Partnership processes that are being convened in Peru and, in addition, to the commitment and multisectoral effort between PROINVERSIÓN, Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), ministries in charge of projects and regulatory agencies, to develop infrastructure and quality public services in the country.
Indeed, between January and June 2024, the agency awarded the Peripheral Ring Road mega-project (US$ 3.4 billion) that will benefit 4.5 million people in 12 districts in the capital through the construction of a 34.8-kilometer highway, which will facilitate the interconnection with Panamericana Norte and Sur, the Carretera Central and allow efficient access to the Callao Port, Jorge Chávez International Airport and the Chancay Port.
During the same period, the construction of the New San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal (US$ 405 million) was awarded, a project aimed at reactivating mining investments of US$ 15 billion in order to boost the southern corridor.
The agency also awarded three electricity projects (US$ 329 million) that will strengthen and improve the electricity transmission system for the benefit of more than one million people in Ica and Arequipa and, in the last week, the agency signed an addendum with the company Fosfatos del Pacifico S.A. (FOSPAC) and Activos Mineros S.A.C. (AMSAC) to the contract for the transfer of the mining concession No. 9 of Bayóvar, located in Sechura (Piura), in order to produce phosphate rock with an estimated investment of US$ 940 million.
SECOND SEMESTER
For the second semester, PROINVERSIÓN plans to award another 17 projects in its portfolio for US$ 3.2 billion, including the Huancayo - Huancavelica Railway (“Tren Macho”), Wastewater Treatment Plant - Puerto Maldonado WWTP, Longitudinal de la Sierra Highway Section 4, 12 other electricity projects (Groups 2, 3 and 4), Operation and Maintenance of Villa El Salvador Hospital and Ancon Industrial Park (AIP).
Meanwhile, the portfolio for the 2025 - 2026 period considers a goal that would exceed US$ 16 billion in projects related to road network conservation, hydrocarbons, telecommunications, sanitation, irrigation, health, among others.
