SANITATION PORTFOLIO WILL BENEFIT 7 MILLION INHABITANTS WITH AN INVESTMENT OF US$ 2.6 BILLION
Lima, November 19, 2024.- During the 2025–2026 period, the Private Investment Promotion Agency – PROINVERSIÓN has scheduled the awarding of 18 projects in the Sanitation sector. These projects will benefit 7 million residents across 13 regions and represent a total investment of US$ 2.593 million.
In this regard, the Director of Project Portfolios, Emerson Castro, explained that Sanitation is the agency's second most important portfolio for the period 2025-2026, after road projects (US$ 6,090 million).
He added that the projects in the portfolio will be promoted through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in Cajamarca, Cusco, Ica, Junín, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Lima, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Moquegua, San Martín, Tumbes, among others.
The idea of the agency is to contribute to closing gaps in sanitation through the public-private investment mechanism that ensures sustainability in infrastructure and services, Castro emphasized.
Project promotion
The sanitation portfolio includes eight Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) for a total cost of US$ 1,262 million, located in Cajamarca, Cusco, Cañete, Chincha, Huancayo, Puerto Maldonado, San Martín, and Trujillo.
It also includes the first phase of the Headworks (US$476 million) that will increase the availability of drinking water and serve more than 1.5 million inhabitants in Metropolitan Lima.
Like the desalination plants in Ilo (US$ 171 million) and Lambayeque (US$ 49 million), which could benefit more than 300,000 people currently affected by water stress by providing drinking water.
For the period 2025-2026, it is also expected to award seven sanitation projects in Iquitos, Cajamarca, Chanchamayo – Concepción, Huaura – Barranca, Tumbes, Contralmirante Villar for a total amount of US$ 635 million.
