PROINVERSIÓN AWARDED THREE ELECTRICITY PROJECTS FOR THE BENEFIT OF ICA AND AREQUIPA
Lima, June 24, 2024.- In a public act, the Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) awarded OA Consortium (Omega Perú Operaciones y Mantenimiento S.A. and Concesiones Perú Holdings Transmision I S.A.C.) the Group 1 of electricity transmission projects, an initiative that will benefit one million citizens in the regions of Ica and Arequipa, which together requires an estimated investment of US$ 329 million.
The Group 1 consists of three projects aimed at improving the quality of the electrical transmission system in the south such as the (I) Poroma Hub Nueva Substation and 500 kV "Hub" Poroma – Colectora link", (II) San José Hub Nueva Substation – First Stage and 220 kV "Hub" San José Link – Repartición (Arequipa)" and (III) the Marcona II Nueva Substation and 138 kV Marcona II - San Isidro (Bella Unión) - Pampa (Chala) Link.
The OA Consortium was awarded Group 1 by bidding a lower total service cost per year for three projects, i.e. US$ 27 million 423 thousand 914.dollars, compared to four other bidders. The successful bidder will be responsible for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the project for a period of 30 years, counted from the signing of the contract.
The executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi, stressed that the award will provide a better quality of electricity service to thousands of homes, as well as to key sectors such as industry, commerce and services, which will contribute to improving the productivity and competitiveness of Ica and Arequipa.
Salardi explained that Group 1 is in line with the institutional goal that expects to award 15 electricity projects for US$ 941 million this year through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), for the benefit of eight million inhabitants of Áncash, Junín, Ucayali, Apurímac, Puno, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Ica, and Lima.
For his part, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, said that the award reaffirms the mutual trust between the government and the private sector for the development of crucial infrastructure for the country.
"The award of these projects is very significant due to their great economic and social impact, it is part of the package of initiatives aimed at modernizing and expanding the electricity infrastructure", he said.
COMPONENTS OF THE PROJECTS
The Poroma Hub Nueva Substation project (First Stage) will allow the transport of 500 kV of energy generated with renewable resources (wind power plants) and will benefit 863 thousand people in Ica.
Meanwhile, the New San José Hub Substation – First Stage and 220 kV Link" will improve reliability and increase the transmission capacity by 138 kV of the electrical system of Distribution, Majes and Mollendo (Arequipa) and will benefit 185 thousand people.
Meanwhile, the Marcona II Nueva Substation and 138 kV Link" will increase the transmission capacity by 60 kV of the electricity system of Bella Unión y Chala (Ica), for the benefit of 46 thousand people.
