EXECUTION OF THE PERIPHERAL RING ROAD BEGINS, A MEGAPROJECT THAT WILL BENEFIT 4.5 MILLION PEOPLE
Lima, November 12, 2024.- In a landmark step, the Agency for the Promotion of Private Investment – PROINVERSIÓN facilitated the signing today of the contract that initiates the execution of the Peripheral Ring Road (AVP), between the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the awarded consortium. This megaproject will benefit 4.5 million people in Metropolitan Lima and Callao.
The project concludes the awarding process, carried out in April 2024, to the Spanish consortium Peripheral Ring Road (composed of Cintra, Acciona, and Sacyr), and will have a total cost of US$ 3.4 billion (US$ 2.3 billion investment and US$ 1.1 billion in other expenses) under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for 30 years. It involves the construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of a modern 34.8 km highway that will connect 11 districts in Metropolitan Lima and Callao.
The modern highway will facilitate connectivity with the North and South Pan-American Highways and the Central Highway, providing efficient access to the Callao Port, Jorge Chávez International Airport, the Chancay Port, and the future Ancon Industrial Park, enhancing the country's productivity and competitiveness.
The project consists of three sections. The first one (8.7 km) will start at the 200 Millas Roundabout in the Constitutional Province of Callao and extend to the North Pan-American Highway (Naranjal Roundabout); the second one (15.1 km) will run from the North Pan-American Highway to Av. Ramiro Prialé; and the third section (11 km) from Av. Ramiro Prialé to the Av. Beltway (San Luis).
The efficiency of the modern road will allow, for example, to reduce the travel time from Ate Vitarte to Independencia from 60 to 15 minutes, from Ate Vitarte to San Juan de Lurigancho to 10 minutes and from San Juan de Lurigancho to Independencia to 5 minutes.
The project will generate 70,000 direct and indirect jobs during its construction and another 20,000 during the operation and maintenance phase. It will also increase economic activity and improve the competitiveness of Lima and Callao, and the country as a whole.
Thanks to the project, approximately 30 kilometers of alternative or lateral roads will also be built and/or improved, allowing citizens to travel without having to pay any tolls.
The signing ceremony for the concession contract was attended by the President of the Council of Ministers, Gustavo Adrianzén; the Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes; the deputy minister of Economy of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Carlos González; and the executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi.
