Lima, October 18. 2024.- Before investors in the infrastructure sector, the executive director of the Private Investment Promotion Agency - PROINVERSIÓN, Jose Salardi, announced that the agency expects to close December with awards for US$ 11,396 million accumulated in the period 2023-2024, which allowed closing gaps in electricity, transport, health, telecommunications and mining, among others.
At El Dorado Invesment's Peru Sustainable Social Infrastructure & Clean Energy 2024 event, Salardi said that the expected balance for 2024 will exceed US$ 8 billion in awards, a result that would far exceed the US$ 2,332 million generated in 2023.
With this, the agency expects to close 2024 with at least 16 projects awarded through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and Projects in Assets, “which shows a greater momentum in the processes convened in Peru and the perception that investors have about the financial conditions and the legal framework of the country,” noted Salardi.
In this scenario, the director of PROINVERSIÓN said that the outlook for new awards is favorable and the subway mining project El Algarrobo is expected to be awarded, with a total amount of US$ 2,753 million (US$ 759 million investment and US$ 1,994 in operating expenses in the first 10 years), which will boost Piura's economy and agriculture.
Regarding concession projects for the 2023-2024 period, Salardi said that the agency awarded around 25 electricity projects for US$ 2,374 million that benefited nearly 13 million inhabitants, as well as three other transport projects that together totaled US$ 4,366 million, benefiting 5.8 million inhabitants.
Two other mining projects for US$ 3,693 million will benefit the Piura region, and in the health sector, two projects have been awarded for investments totaling US$ 323 million and will benefit more than 1.6 million insured persons. Meanwhile, two telecommunications projects for US$ 640 million generated a positive impact on 1,679 localities nationwide.
At the end of his presentation, Salardi commented that there is great expectation from local and global investors to continue betting on long-term investments in the country and thus move towards the closing of infrastructure and public services gaps with a focus on sustainability, which is very necessary to strengthen productivity and competitiveness.
