BALANCE 2024: TRANSPORT SECTOR LED AWARDS WITH THREE PROJECTS FOR US$4,366 MILLION
Lima, December 26, 2024.- In the 2024 balance sheet, the Transport sector led the portfolio of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) awards, reaching a total of US$4,366 million through three projects aimed at strengthening the country's connectivity, reported The Private Investment Promotion Agency – PROINVERSIÓN.
The executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi, explained that these are historic megaprojects that will have an important impact on the country and that were waiting many years for their development, such as the Peripheral Road Ring (US$3,396 million), New Port Terminal of San Juan de Marcona (US$405 million) and Huancayo Huancavelica Railway or "Tren Macho" (US$565 million),
The Peripheral Road Ring will benefit 4.5 million inhabitants of Lima and Callao with the construction, operation and maintenance of a modern 34.8 km highway that will interconnect 11 districts in the capital. The project, awarded to the Cintra, Acciona and Sacyr consortium, will significantly reduce travel times from Ate Vitarte to Independencia to 15 minutes and from San Juan de Lurigancho to Independencia to 5 minutes. In addition, it will generate 70,000 direct and indirect jobs during its construction and another 20,000 in operation.
Meanwhile, the New Port Terminal of San Juan de Marcona megaproject will boost the development of the south of the country by having a multipurpose infrastructure that will benefit 29 provinces of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Apurímac, Cusco and Ica and will also stimulate complementary investments such as the Andahuaylas-Marcona Railway (US$5 billion) and the reactivation of the petrochemical industry in the south, attracting more than US$2 billion in additional investments. The terminal is estimated to generate 80,000 jobs in its area of influence
Likewise, the modernization of the Huancayo – Huancavelica Railway, an emblematic transport infrastructure that is about to celebrate 100 years of operations, was promoted through the award to the Consorcio Concesionaria Ferroviaria del Centro and that will benefit 1.2 million inhabitants of Junín and Huancavelica.
This concession includes the design, financing, execution of works, acquisition of rolling stock, operation and maintenance for 30 years of the 128.7-kilometer railway. As well as the construction of a new repair and maintenance workshop, drainage system, slope protection, railway superstructure renovation, among others.
Portfolio 2025
In the 2025 portfolio, PROINVERSIÓN plans to award another 10 projects in the Transport sector for more than US$3 billion, through nine road works (US$) 2,828 million and the Chimbote International Port Terminal (US$331 million).
Road projects include the Longitudinal de la Sierra Section 4 (US$1,582 million), whose award is scheduled for the first quarter and will benefit 1.6 million inhabitants in Junín, Huancavelica, Ica, Ayacucho and Apurímac.
In addition to seven Group 1 road corridors for US$1,134 million (Cusco, Cerro de Pasco, Puno, Moquegua, Tarma, Huancayo and Tarapoto), and the Zapallal – Avenida Gambeta (tunnel) road in the port of Callao (US$112 million).
