THREE STAKEHOLDERS PRESENT CREDENTIALS TO MODERNIZE THE HUANCAYO - HUANCAVELICA RAILWAY
Lima, March 20, 2024.- Three companies submitted their credentials (Envelope No. 1) to compete as “qualified stakeholders” in the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway modernization project, which requires an estimated investment of US$ 394 million and will benefit 1.2 million residents, according to the Agency for The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN).
Two consortiums and a company of local, regional and European origin, with extensive experience in the construction and operation of road and railway projects, submitted their credentials for the tender. The list of pre-qualified candidates will be announced, according to the process schedule, after evaluating compliance with the technical, financial and legal requirements demanded by the bidding terms of the public tender.
Qualified stakeholders will be able to submit their technical (Envelope No. 2) and economic (Envelope No. 3) proposal for the modernization project of the Huancayo — Huancavelica Railway.
The award of the project, which will take place in the second quarter of 2024, and was commissioned to PROINVERSIÓN by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and includes a 30-year concession to provide transportation services to the population, meeting international quality standards for the benefit of more than 1.2 million people in Junín (Huancayo) and Huancavelica.
It should be considered that the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway currently has 128.7 kilometers of route, seven (7) stations, 20 bus stops, 15 bridges and 38 tunnels, all of which will be modernized to have renewed infrastructure, new rolling stock and signaling and control system, which will ensure safe, efficient and comfortable transport for users.
In addition, a new repair and maintenance workshop will be built, a drainage system will be constructed, slopes will be protected and stabilized, and most importantly, the superstructure of the railway will be renovated.
The modern railway will have seven (7) daily circulations in each direction and will have a social rate set by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (the project's grantor) that allows more users to use this important means of transport.
