PROINVERSIÓN WILL PROMOTE THE MODERNIZATION OF THE TACNA-ARICA RAILWAY
Lima, August 16, 2024.- After 168 years since its construction, the historic Tacna-Arica Railway could enter a new phase aimed at its modernization. In this direction, the inter-institutional collaboration agreement (act) signed by the Regional Government of Tacna and the Private Investment Promotion Agency – PROINVERSIÓN is directed. This agreement will work jointly on the promotion and execution of the project, which will benefit more than 60,000 passengers monthly.
The modernization of the Tacna-Arica Railway could be realized through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), with an investment of over $70 million for the replacement of railway tracks, rolling stock, and equipment, as well as the modernization of stations and the operation and maintenance of passenger and cargo transport services, thereby boosting both national and international tourism.
Under the agreement signed in the city of Tacna by PROINVERSIÓN's executive director, José Salardi, and the Regional Governor of Tacna, Luis Torres Robledo, both entities commit to taking actions to identify and promote investment initiatives in the modalities of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), Projects in Assets, and Works for Taxes. They will also focus on strengthening the capacities of officials and technical teams regarding this investment mechanism.
The head of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi, ratified the agency's commitment to continue working together with the regional authorities of Tacna to promote private investment. He noted that the agency's technical team will identify potential private investors to promote the railway project, which will boost tourism and commerce in the Tacna region.

In this regard, PROINVERSIÓN will continue working with regional and local authorities in Tacna to advance all high-impact social initiatives needed to close infrastructure and public service gaps in the region.
