PROINVERSIÓN AND THE UNITED KINGDOM WILL PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF PPP IN PERU
Lima, March 19, 2025.- The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) and the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Peru signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the purpose of promoting the development of social, logistics and sustainable transport infrastructure, directly benefiting citizens through public-private collaboration.
The agreement establishes that PROINVERSIÓN and the British Embassy will promote strategies and mechanisms that favor the development of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) for the operation and maintenance of infrastructure, promoted by government-to-government agreements with the United Kingdom.
In addition, the use of standardized and collaborative contracts in the framework of PPPs will be encouraged in order to optimize the execution of projects and ensure the delivery of efficient public services to the public.
The Memorandum also provides for the transfer of knowledge and capacity building of Peruvian public officials in best practices for infrastructure development, drawing on the experience of the UK Government. This will include activities such as workshops on methodologies developed by the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) and joint working missions between officials from Peru and the United Kingdom.
The agreement was signed by the Executive Director of PROINVERSIÓN, Luis Del Carpio, and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Peru, Gavin Cook.
Del Carpio highlighted that this agreement marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation between PROINVERSIÓN and the British Embassy, to ensure the sustainability of investment projects through the PPP modality and contribute to the closing of infrastructure gaps in the country. “This is a step towards a fruitful long-term collaboration to share experiences in the development of infrastructure and public services,” he added.
For his part, Ambassador Gavin Cook noted that under this memorandum, both parties will work together to develop and deliver infrastructure projects in a timely and sustainable manner. “Our objective is to share our best practices and experiences in the development of quality infrastructure, thus contributing to the closing of gaps in Peru,” he stressed.
To implement this agreement, Cook announced the creation of the UK-Peru Joint Technical Committee for the Promotion of Private Investment, which will begin its activities next week.
PROINVERSIÓN and the British Embassy in Lima undertake to provide mutual assistance to ensure the effective fulfillment of the commitments established in the Memorandum of Understanding, as well as the follow-up of the activities derived from it, in order to guarantee the success of the projects for the benefit of the Peruvian citizens.
