PROINVERSIÓN AND INEN PROMOTE THE CONSTRUCTION OF A PEDIATRIC ONCOLOGICAL TOWER FOR MORE THAN S/ 900
Lima, June 20, 2024.- The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN), the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN), will promote the construction of the Pediatric Oncology Project (Pediatric Oncology Tower) in order to improve specialized care and increase the survival and recovery of children and adolescents with cancer.
The social project will be built through the Works for Taxes (OxI) mechanism with an estimated investment of S/ 921 million, in an area of 7 500 square meters and the infrastructure will have 11 floors and six (6) basements; it will have the conditions for differentiated oncological care for children and adolescents, fully equipped and with modern hospital technology.
The executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi, highlighted the importance of the project because it will strengthen timely and highly specialized care in the fight against cancer, raising the chances of patients' full recovery.
In addition, he reiterated that the agency will offer all the advice and technical assistance to make this project a reality for the benefit of thousands of children and adolescents in the country.
For his part, the head of INEN, Francisco Berrospi, said that his entity has highly specialized professionals in pediatric oncology, who would guarantee the best quality of care, diagnosis, specialized treatment, bone marrow transplants, critical care, rehabilitation and palliative care.
The pediatric oncology tower includes the construction of infrastructure and equipment, health information system (electronic medical record) and governance and articulation with other Institutions Providing Health Services (Ipress) for the early detection of cancer at the national level.
The infrastructure and equipment will allow for emergency pediatric oncology services, exclusive radiation therapy for children and adolescents, exclusive oncology rehabilitation for children and adolescents, palliative children's oncology medicine, specialized teleconsultations throughout the country, among others.
In addition, the oncology center will have 200 individual hospitalization environments for each child and their companion; 50 oncology intensive and intermediate care rooms, rooms equipped for bone marrow transplantation, 200 armchairs to administer ambulatory chemotherapy set for the care of children and adolescents, exclusive surgical centers for children's oncological surgery, 25 outpatient offices specialized in pediatric oncology and 10 highly specialized laboratories.
The project was presented at an event attended by the vice-minister of Health Benefits and Insurance, Ciro Abel Mestas; the institutional head of INEN, Francisco Berrospi; and the executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi.
