FCC AQUALIA OF SPAIN WILL DEVELOP THE CHINCHA WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT
Lima, January 07, 2025.- In a public act, the Private Investment Promotion Agency - PROINVERSIÓN awarded the Spanish company FCC Aqualia the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the project for the treatment and final disposal or reuse of wastewater from Chincha - Chincha WWTP, which will benefit 345 thousand inhabitants of seven districts.
The contractor will invest US$ 96.5 million to treat and dispose of wastewater generated in the districts of Chincha Alta, Chincha Baja, Grocio Prado, Pueblo Nuevo, Alto Larán, Sunampe and Tambo de Mora.
The executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi, explained that this award marks a breakthrough in the Public-Private Partnerships in the Sanitation sector, which has been waiting for six years for the development of infrastructure for wastewater treatment.
Salardi added that the Chincha WWTP is part of a portfolio of eight Sanitation projects for US$ 1,651 million that the agency will promote in 2025 and that includes the Cajamarca, Cusco, Huancayo, Puerto Maldonado, San Martín, Trujillo WWTPs, as well as the Ilo Desalination Plant and Headworks (first stage).
FCC Aqualia has extensive experience in the sanitation sector and is present in 17 countries other than Peru: Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Chile, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Spain, United States, France, Georgia, Italy, Mexico, Oman, Portugal, Qatar, Czech Republic and Romania.
BENEFITS OF THE PROJECTS
The Chincha WWTP project comprises the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance for 24 years of approximately 21 km of main collection networks and impulsion lines, a pumping station, two new treatment plants of 0.6 cubic meters per second in total, as well as 7.7 km of lines for the final disposal of treated wastewater.
This will reduce pollution and protect local ecosystems, improving the quality of life of the population by reducing diseases related to the misuse of wastewater, as well as generating the conditions for the development of complementary projects for the reuse of treated wastewater and other by-products.
The State will co-finance the entire investment of the Chincha WWTP and part of the operation and maintenance component of the project through the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MCVS). SUNASS will set the tariff associated with this project, which will ensure its long-term sustainability.
