MORE THAN 6200 KILOMETERS OF THE NATIONAL ROAD NETWORK WILL RECEIVE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE IN 11
Lima, October 16, 2024 - The Private Investment Promotion Agency - PROINVERSIÓN plans to award 20 road maintenance projects in the period 2025-2026, to ensure that 6,224 kilometers of the National Road Network in 11 regions have investments that guarantee their permanent operation and maintenance. The projects will contribute to providing users with infrastructure in optimum condition, with high quality and safety standards, thus improving service in the country's transport sector.
The projects, entrusted to the agency by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), will represent an investment of US$ 4,548 million to be executed through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in the regions of Áncash, Arequipa, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Junín, Ica, Moquegua, Piura, Puno and San Martín.
Regarding this group, the Director of Special Projects of PROINVERSIÓN, Luis Del Carpio, said that the concession of the roads will allow private operators to carry out preventive or corrective works in the corridors, under a systematic technical programming, with the objective of ensuring sustainable service levels that guarantee traffic 365 days a year, reducing travel times and logistic costs.
Indeed, these initiatives will not only improve road connectivity but will also boost productivity, generating employment, promoting trade and boosting tourism in their areas of influence. This public-private collaboration strengthens national infrastructure, optimizes results for citizens and contributes to economic reactivation in a decentralized manner, said Del Carpio.
Unlike conventional road maintenance, which is executed by volume of work, PPP road maintenance projects do not require pre-investment studies. Instead, they focus on preventive or corrective works based on the type of road and the needs of users and populations linked to the infrastructure.
In road infrastructure, the agency awarded this year the Peripheral Ring Road (AVP) project for US$ 3.4 billion and is expected to award, in the following months, the Longitudinal de la Sierra - Section 4, whose cost exceeds US$ 1.5 billion.
