PROINVERSIÓN: VIETTEL PERU WILL EXTEND 4G MOBILE SERVICES TO MORE THAN 3,800 RURAL LOCATIONS

Lima, October 6, 2023.- The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) informed that the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the company Viettel Peru S.A.C. signed the single concession contracts for the "AWS-3 and 2.3 GHz Radio Spectrum Bands" projects. These are two (2) important projects that will improve and expand the 4G mobile service (telephony and internet) in more than 3,800 rural locations nationwide.

The AWS-3 and 2.3 GHz Radio Spectrum Bands projects were awarded to the aforementioned company last June -in a competitive process developed by PROINVERSIÓN- after achieving the highest score and the best offer for coverage of rural locations nationwide: 2,640 locations with the AWS-3 Band and 1,185 locations with the 2.3 GHz Band. In this way, 3,825 rural localities will have 4G mobile service (telephony and mobile internet), improving their connectivity and the quality of life of their inhabitants.

The event was attended by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr. Raúl Pérez Reyes, the Deputy Minister of Communications of the MTC, Ms. Carla Sosa Vela; the Executive Director of PROINVERSIÓN, Mr. José Salardi; and the legal representative of the company Viettel Peru, Mr. Benjamín Astete.

"The signing of the single concession contracts is a significant step towards making it possible for thousands of our compatriots in rural areas to have access to telephony and internet services that will allow them to connect and improve their productivity and competitiveness," commented the executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi. He emphasized that the investment of approximately US$ 640 million, which would be required to implement the commitments, is a clear commitment of the company to the processes developed by PROINVERSIÓN and to the country.

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes, said that it is very important to have these bands awarded and that there is an operator that will start the deployment. "It is a key milestone in terms of investment for our country and also in terms of coverage for the telecommunications network to have 4G network coverage nationwide," he said. He also expressed that the current contract signings continue to give signs and evidence that our country is attractive for investments.

Raúl Galdo Marín, Deputy General Manager of Viettel Peru, said that they are happy to have obtained these important band projects, and congratulated PROINVERSIÓN for having carried out this process with great professionalism and promoting more investments for Peru. "It is up to us as a company to take on a challenge to reach more than 3,800 locations with 4G broadband where there is no connectivity or where there is only 2G and 3G. This further deepens our social responsibility and our line of action of reaching the most remote and poorest places in the country. We are happy to continue contributing in this way to the development of Peru and to reduce the digital gap," said the executive of Viettel Peru.

IMPACT

Thanks to the execution of the AWS-3 and 2.3 GHz Radio Spectrum Bands projects, a greater number of rural localities nationwide that today do not have mobile services or only have 2G or 3G technology services, will have access to 4G mobile services, so that they can improve the quality of their communications and receive distance education and telehealth services. In addition, the execution of the investment commitments will encourage other operators to invest in telecommunications infrastructure in remote areas where there is no 4G mobile coverage, thus contributing to reducing the telecommunications gap and expanding the footprint of mobile operators in rural areas of the country.

The term of the concession of both AWS-3 and 2.3 GHz bands will be 20 years.
