WORKING WITH OTHER STATE ENTITIES TO ENSURE SUSTAINABLE PPP PROJECTS

Lima, December 15, 2023.- The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) held the event "Public-Private Partnerships: Promoting Sustainable Infrastructure", with the participation of representatives from the public sector, academia, the private sector, international cooperation, the financial system and civil society.

The objective of the event was to develop a thorough analysis of the environmental and social environment of the projects, as well as innovation for closing infrastructure gaps, incorporating the sustainability approach.

At the opening of the event, the director of the Project Portfolio Division of PROINVERSIÓN, Emerson Castro, said that the agency is currently evolving towards a more comprehensive approach since incorporating the principle of sustainability requires not only improving internal practices and adopting international standards but also influencing and creating synergies with the different actors in the country's investment ecosystem. 

"Working together with other State entities has been and will always be a key part of ensuring that projects are truly sustainable. However, achieving sustainability requires even more will to be articulated. We are convinced that the only way to achieve better results is by integrating efforts," he said. 

The activity addressed PROINVERSIÓN's commitment to sustainability. Trends, challenges and opportunities for the promotion of sustainable infrastructure through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). Innovation for closing infrastructure gaps; and success stories, with specialists giving their opinions and proposals for solutions on the subject of sustainability.

During the presentations, PROINVERSIÓN's commitment to achieving the award of projects that improve the quality of life of thousands of families in the country was highlighted. "It is not enough for us to meet our award targets, which by the way we are doing very well this year, but we want the projects to be sustainable throughout their life cycle. To this end, we seek to attract responsible companies and we want to encourage public entities to incorporate more sustainable, low-carbon projects that generate shared value in their planning," said Emerson Castro.  

It is worth mentioning that the agency not only promotes sustainable infrastructure but also sustainable public services. In this sense, there are many opportunities to be explored with the three (3) modalities it promotes: PPPs, Projects in Assets and Works for Taxes.

At PROINVERSIÓN, the importance of promoting the development of sustainable infrastructure and services is intrinsically linked to the sustainability of our country. Sustainable infrastructure is not only an option but an imperative need. It is a great catalyst that boosts economic development, promotes social equality and preserves our environment. Investing in quality infrastructure is investing in the well-being of present and future generations. 

EVENT

The event was divided into three panels: The first panel addressed Trends, challenges and opportunities for the promotion of sustainable infrastructure through PPPs. The second panel was about the innovation for closing infrastructure gaps. And panel three analyzed success stories.

During the meeting, testimonies were presented on the impact of the more than 100 projects awarded by PROINVERSIÓN on the country's development. The challenges to be overcome and the various tools available to continue incorporating excellent practices and promoting truly sustainable infrastructure were discussed.
