CHALLENGES OF PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS IN LATIN AMERICA TO BE DISCUSSED IN LIMA NEXT APRIL
Lima, March 17, 2025.- The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) together with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), support the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the organization of the PPP Americas 2025 forum, the most important event in the region on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), to be held in Lima (Peru) on April 8-9, 2025.
The event, which is led by the IDB, will have more than 125 panelists and will address topics such as digital transformation, mobilizing financing, attracting private investment, innovation for sustainable impact and evaluation for continuous improvement.
In the case of Peru, the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Salardi, and the Executive Director of PROINVERSIÓN, Luis Del Carpio, will be in charge of presenting the progress and challenges of PPPs, as well as the portfolio of projects promoted by the State.
More than 600 participants are expected, including government leaders, investors and experts from 25 different countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Asia, as well as officials from the IDB and IDB Invest, the arm of the institution that seeks to develop the private sector and capital markets in Latin American and Caribbean member countries.
PPP Americas takes place every two years, and in the 2023 edition, the venue was Panama, where more than 400 projects at different stages of maturity were identified, with investment opportunities of nearly US$ 120 billion.
Evidence shows that well-structured PPPs generate efficient infrastructure, optimize the use of public resources, and have a direct impact on the economy and society.
In Peru, in the 23 years that the PPP model has been in place, 243 projects have been awarded concessions for more than US$ 46.5 billion. In addition, in 2024 alone, a record number of concessions were awarded, reaching nearly US$ 9 billion in concessions, which shows the confidence of the private sector in Peru.
For 2025 and 2026, PROINVERSIÓN is promoting a portfolio of more than 100 projects exceeding US$ 46 billion, of which 34 are for 2025 for more than US$ 8 billion and another 46 are planned for 2026 for another US$ 8 billion. These are in addition to nine addenda to current contracts for US$ 9,465 million and 13 additional projects to be structured for US$ 19.3 billion.
