SINGAPORE BECOMES THE FIRST PARTNER OF THE PACIFIC ALLIANCE

January 27, 2022 - Lima.- The Pacific Alliance, made up of Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Chile, signed a free trade agreement (FTA) with Singapore, making the Asian country the first associated Government.

FTA contains 25 chapters, covering different specific topics such as access to the goods market, sanitary measures, electronic commerce, the temporary entry of business people, competition policy, gender, SMEs, among others, according to the Republic of Colombia.

For Peru, this agreement complements the bilateral treaty with Singapore, in force since August 1, 2009; as well as the CPTPP, which entered into force on September 19, 2021 for Peru.

This would not be the only country that could join the Pacific Alliance. Ecuador asked to formally join this international mechanism (at the moment, Ecuador is in a observer country status).

Pedro Castillo
The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, participated in this XVI Summit of the Pacific Alliance, during which they discussed- among others- the ecological disaster caused by the oil spill in Ventanilla. Moreover, the president of Colombia, Iván Duque, announced that he will send logistical support to help in the cleaning work.

At another time. Castillo said that "nations do not feed on discourses or ideologies, but on what each family and each government does."
