CASTILLO SAYS THAT THE PERUVIAN GOVERNMENT IS COMMITTED TO HONORING OBLIGATIONS TO JOIN THE OECD

January 27, 2022 - Lima.- The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, undertook to fulfill all the obligations necessary for Peru to become a full member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

"The relationship between Peru and the OECD is based on a relationship that benefits us mutually. Peru is a partner capable of contributing to the strengthening of the multilateral system to address global challenges. I express the commitment of the Peruvian Government to honor the obligations linked to the accession process leading to the incorporation of our country into the OECD," said the president.

Pedro Castillo, signed the letter in which Peru accepts the invitation to start the process of accession to the OECD and during his speech described this stage as a milestone and a great opportunity for the country.

"Peru's aspiration to join the OECD constitutes a permanent Government policy that is based on the defense of democracy, the protection of individual freedoms, human rights, an open, inclusive and competitive economy, and the rule of law," he said.

The president also commented that there is a commitment to promote fiscal transparency, the fight against corruption and the conservation of the environment, as well as to assume reforms "in all areas and all sectors" that require regulatory adjustments to improve public policies and promote good governance.

"We will embrace this challenge with deep commitment at the multisectoral level and in permanent dialogue with the other branches of government, civil society, workers' unions, business associations and universities," he concluded.
