PERU: MEF SAYS NATURAL GAS WILL REACH THE ENTIRE SOUTH OF THE COUNTRY
Lima, November 13, 2023.- Peru is a country rich in natural gas and gas will reach the entire south of our territory, with the arrival in Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna the beginning of a broader strategy, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras, said today.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) and ProInversión signed today, at the Government Palace, an agreement for the south-west concession of natural gas, at which Minister Contreras was present.
“Natural gas changes lives. The agreement strengthens the mass expansion of natural gas, which will allow us to take it to the regions of Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna,” he noted.
He said that, in this way, gas is brought to more Peruvians, which will improve the quality of life of citizens, because it reduces the costs of families, entrepreneurs and transporters.
“The goal is the entire south and these regions, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna, are the beginning of a broader strategy that will change the face of the country. It will be key in the transition from polluting to non-polluting energies,” he said.
- Natural Gas Massification Plan will be implemented starting in the 1st quarter of 2024
Contreras considered that one of the ways to become competitive is with access to low-cost energy. “We want to close infrastructure gaps across the country once and for all,” he said.
Flagship project
At another time, he reiterated that this year the record of the last five years has been broken with allocations exceeding 2.3 million dollars through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mechanism, above what was awarded in 2022.
To reap investment, we need to sow investment, and this is a key step, because the overcrowding of the south of the country is one of the emblematic projects we have.
