FIVE MINISTRIES AND THE REGIONAL GOVERNMENT OF CUSCO PRIORITIZE 129 OXI PROJECTS FOR S/ 8,450 MILLIO

Lima, April 20, 2023.- The need to further reduce the gaps in infrastructure and public services and boost development, five (5) ministries of the State and the Regional Government of Cusco have submitted a portfolio of 129 investment projects, amounting to more than S/ 8,450 million, to be executed through the Works for Taxes mechanism.

These are the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), which submitted seven (7) projects for S/ 792 million; the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), 30 projects for S/ 226 million; the Ministry of the Interior, 26 projects for S/ 629 million; the Ministry of Production, 13 projects for S/ 377 million; and the Ministry of Education, 18 projects for S/ 954 million. While the Regional Government of Cusco presented 35 projects for S/ 5.479 million.

The announced portfolio is made up of extremely important projects in key sectors such as transports, sanitation, production, security, health, education, among others, whose execution will contribute to improving the quality of life of the people. 

"These projects show us the future path that PROINVERSIÓN and public entities must follow together to generate quality infrastructure and public services, and for the private sector it represents an opportunity to contribute to close the gaps in social infrastructure in an efficient and fast way", highlighted PROINVERSIÓN's executive director, José Salardi, who also offered technical support from the entity, in coordination with the MEF, to guarantee the fast execution of the projects, their delivery to the population, and the fast and effective recovery of the certificates by the private sector.

The deputy minister of Economy of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Juan Pichihua, highlighted that in recent years the MEF has promoted the expansion of the scope of projects that can be implemented through Works for Taxes. He noted that currently, in addition to investment projects, IOARRs (Optimization, Marginal Expansion, Rehabilitation and Replacement Investments) can be implemented. “From the MEF we have also incorporated new sources of resources so that today the possibility of leveraging resources for regional and local governments, through the Works for Taxes mechanism, is huge,” he noted.

For his part, the regional governor of Cusco, Werner Salcedo, commented that they have presented strategic projects of great impact that will contribute to closing gaps in sectors such as water and sanitation, health, transports, electrification, among others, and urged private companies to finance these initiatives.
The event - organized by PROINVERSIÓN with the support of the sectors involved- was attended by the minister of Production, Raúl Pérez Reyes; deputy minister of Economy of the MEF, Juan Pichihua; the regional governor of Cusco, Werner Salcedo; the executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, José Salardi; and representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation.

GOAL 2023

The goal of public entities by 2023 is to award at least 19 projects through Works for Taxes, for more than S/ 620 million. “But we believe that this year we will exceed the goal; we have big projects that will contribute towards this goal,” said the head of PROINVERSIÓN after inviting the private sector to rely on this mechanism that is contributing to improving the quality of life of people. 

Among the main projects to be awarded this year are the Improvement and expansion of the drinking water and sewage systems of Pucusana (S/ 276 million), the High Performance School (COAR) of Chalhuanca, Apurimac (S/ 77 million) and the COAR of Cajamarca (S/ 79 million). The initiatives for the Improvement and Expansion of Services of the Regional Hospital of Huaraz (Víctor Ramos Guardia) for S/ 334 million and the Santa Rosa Bridge project (accesses and overpasses to the new terminal of the Jorge Chávez International Airport) for S/ 475 million that the entity has been promoting in line with the MTC's announcement could also be added.

“We know that it is not easy, but there is no greater satisfaction than seeing how our actions can change the reality of millions of families, generating better living conditions and progress,” said the executive director of PROINVERSIÓN.

Since the creation of the Works for Tax mechanism, 15 years ago, PROINVERSIÓN has promoted and contributed to the award of 513 works in the three levels of government for an estimated amount of S/ 6,756 million, benefiting more than 21 million Peruvians.
