PROINVERSIÓN awards key project to ensure specialized care at the National Institute of Child Health of San Borja

The concessionaire Proyectos de Infraestructura Sucursal del Perú will assume the operation and comprehensive maintenance of the country's main specialized pediatric hospital under the PPP modality.

Lima, May 22, 2026 – Peru takes a decisive step to guarantee the continuity and quality of care for thousands of children and adolescents with highly complex diseases. The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) awarded the comprehensive management project for the operation and maintenance of the infrastructure and equipment of the National Institute of Child Health of San Borja (INSN-SB) to the concessionaire Proyectos de Infraestructura Sucursal del Perú, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) modality.

The public award ceremony was attended by PROINVERSIÓN Executive Director Luis Del Carpio Castro, INSN–SB General Director Zulema Tomás Gonzales, and officials from the Ministry of Health, who highlighted the importance of this model in ensuring modern, sustainable, and high-quality hospital services.

With an estimated investment of US$ 317 million and a 17-year contract term, the project will ensure the continuous operation, maintenance, and technological modernization of one of the most important pediatric hospitals in Latin America. The concession includes “grey coat” and “green coat” services, including infrastructure and equipment maintenance, food, laundry, cleaning, security, sterilization and clinical pathology, ensuring that the institute operates with high standards of quality and constantly updated technology.

“When a child faces a complex illness, every minute and every medical team can make the difference between life and death. This PPP has a profoundly human purpose: to ensure that doctors always have operational infrastructure, modern technology, and services functioning at the highest standards so they can continue saving lives. “That is the true value of a well-made investment,” said Luis Del Carpio, head of PROINVERSIÓN.

One of the most important aspects of the contract is that the concessionaire will be responsible for the permanent replacement of hospital equipment throughout the term of the concession, ensuring continuous technological updating and operational sustainability for the benefit of pediatric patients. “Furthermore, the Agency will actively oversee the contractual execution throughout the 17-year concession term, strengthening coordination to ensure that the project maintains the quality and service standards that patients and their families need,” Del Carpio added.

The National Institute of Child Health of San Borja is a national and Latin American reference center specializing in cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, transplants, neonatal care and burn treatment. It has 241 hospital beds, 59 ICU beds and six neonatal ICU beds, attending to highly specialized cases from all over the country.

With this award, the State strengthens a Public-Private Partnership model that has already demonstrated positive results in improving pediatric care and reducing infant mortality, while maintaining free medical services provided by the Ministry of Health.
