Lima, July 17, 2026.- PROINVERSIÓN awarded FCC Aqualia S.A. the project for the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Cajamarca, for an amount of more than US$ 123 million, which includes the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a modern sanitation infrastructure. The project will mark a turning point for the city by putting an end to the discharge of untreated wastewater into the Mashcón, San Lucas, and Cajamarquino rivers, an issue that for decades has adversely affected the environment, public health, and the quality of life of more than 365,000 residents of Cajamarca.
“I want to thank all the companies that have placed their trust in the processes led by PROINVERSIÓN. This has been a very important year for the institution, with the awarding of projects in sectors such as airports, health, sanitation, Works for Taxes and the strengthening of Petroperú. Furthermore, today we assume a new role as the entity that owns strategic projects, which allows us to support them from their structuring to their execution. Our commitment does not end with the signing of a contract; it continues to ensure that investments become works and services that improve the quality of life of Peruvians,” said the executive president of PROINVERSIÓN, Luis Del Carpio.
The award is the result of a competitive process promoted by PROINVERSIÓN, which allowed the State to select the best technical and economic proposal to develop one of the most important sanitation works in the country, guaranteeing greater efficiency, better economic conditions and more value for all Peruvians.
The project will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) modality and includes the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the city’s main wastewater collection system, as well as a modern plant with state-of-the-art technology for the treatment and final disposal of an average flow of approximately 0.6 cubic meters per second, ensuring an efficient and sustainable service throughout the concession.
Currently, the city of Cajamarca discharges untreated wastewater directly into the Mashcón, San Lucas and Cajamarquino Rivers. With the implementation of the project, this situation will change definitively, allowing the recovery of these bodies of water, improving sanitary conditions, protecting public health, promoting the recovery of the valley’s flora and fauna, generating better conditions for agricultural activity, and opening new opportunities for the sustainable use of treated water.
The execution of the project will also boost the local economy by generating employment during the construction and operation phases, contributing to the economic development of the region and closing one of the main sanitation gaps in Cajamarca.
The project will directly benefit more than 365,000 residents of the city and represents a sustainable solution to an environmental problem that has persisted for decades, establishing itself as one of the most important sanitation investments for the region.
With this award, PROINVERSIÓN reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable investments that transform people’s lives, fostering modern infrastructure that improves the quality of public services, protects the environment, and contributes to the country’s economic and social development.
During the award ceremony, the following participated: the provincial mayor of Cajamarca, Eduardo Quiroz; the representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Sergio Campos; the former provincial mayor of Cajamarca, Joaquín Ramírez; as well as representatives of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, who highlighted the coordinated work between the entities involved to make a reality of a project awaited for decades by the population of Cajamarca and which will contribute to closing one of the main sanitation gaps in the region.
