PROINVERSIÓN introduces and promotes the New Southern Logistics Corridor with Peru’s First Dry Port

With more than 44% of national exports, the Southern Axis is consolidating with a portfolio exceeding US$ 10 billion and a multimodal logistics system to strengthen integration with Brazil and Bolivia.

Juliaca, July 6, 2026 – PROINVERSIÓN presented the strategy to consolidate the Southern Axis as the country’s new logistics integration route, based on a portfolio of 22 Public-Private Partnership projects worth more than US$ 10 billion, among which the Southern Dry Port stands out, the first multimodal logistics platform in Peru, which will strengthen the competitiveness of trade with Brazil, Bolivia and the Asia-Pacific markets.

The announcement was made during the international forum “Southern Logistics Corridor and San Román Dry Port: the new integration route”, headed by the executive president of PROINVERSIÓN, Luis Del Carpio; the regional governor of Puno, Richard Hancco Soncco; the provincial mayor of San Román, Óscar Cáceres Rodríguez; and the rector of the National University of Juliaca, Vilma Sarmiento Mamani.

The CEO of PROINVERSIÓN, Luis Del Carpio, highlighted that the Southern Dry Port responds to a strategic vision to boost the development of the southern macro-region. “A port does not need the sea to exist; it needs an exceptional location, and Juliaca has one. Puno is the commercial gateway between the Atlantic and the Pacific.

Today, southern Peru accounts for more than 40% of the country’s exports, and we have both the right and the responsibility to create our own opportunities by strengthening our ties with Brazil and Bolivia and integrating the entire southern macro-region,” he said.

The Southern Dry Port will be developed on a 52-hectare plot of land in Juliaca, under the modality of Projects in Assets. The project will reduce costs and logistics times, facilitate access for regional producers to new markets, strengthen trade with Brazil and Bolivia, and generate greater investment and employment. Following the recent transfer of S/ 1,386,410.60 from the Regional Government of Puno to PROINVERSIÓN, the entity will begin contracting the technical studies for the formulation and structuring of the project, whose preliminary investment is estimated between US$ 150 million and US$ 250 million.

The Provincial Mayor of San Román, Óscar Cáceres, emphasized that “PROINVERSIÓN’s leadership in this project will make integration a reality.” Meanwhile, Regional Governor of Puno, Richard Hancco, expressed his appreciation for PROINVERSIÓN’s continued presence in the region and highlighted that the project will enable Puno to capitalize on its competitive advantages and grow through market opportunities and globalization.

STRATEGIC ALLIANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT

Likewise, the rector of the National University of Juliaca, Vilma Sarmiento, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to having its professionals contribute to the implementation, design and operation of the Southern Dry Port. During the event, an inter-institutional cooperation agreement was signed to promote the exchange of information, the development of applied research, and the implementation of joint actions related to the promotion of private investment.

The agreement will strengthen the collaboration between the State and academia to promote the training of professionals, applied research and the development of the Southern Dry Port and other strategic projects for the southern macro-region.

The event also brought together representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT), the Association of Exporters (ADEX), as well as Rafael Torres, president of the Brazil-Peru Chamber of Commerce, and Carina Blanco, General Manager of IIRSA Sur, in addition to authorities, businesspeople, academics and representatives of various trade associations.
