PROINVERSIÓN SIGNS CONTRACT TO PROMOTE THE COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHAVIMOCHIC PROJECT

The heads of Midagri, the Regional Government of La Libertad, and PROINVERSIÓN signed a declaration of relevance for this project, which will generate more than 150,000 jobs in the region.

Trujillo, September 4, 2025.- The Private Investment Promotion Agency – PROINVERSIÓN and the LSH PINI Consortium signed the contract for the Study to Update the Engineering and Costs of the Major Hydraulic Works of the Chavimochic Project.

During the ceremony, PROINVERSIÓN’s Executive Director, Tabata Vivanco del Castillo, together with the Regional Governor of La Libertad, César Acuña, and the Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Angel Manero, signed the Declaration of Relevance Act for the contracting of the Update Study.

The Study will support the structuring of the new concession process for the Major Hydraulic Works of the Chavimochic Project. The comprehensive execution of the Chavimochic Project is strategic for the economic, social, and agricultural development of La Libertad and of the country.

The new comprehensive concession of the Project involves an estimated investment of over US$ 500 million, which will allow for the irrigation of 63,000 new hectares and the improvement of another 48,000 hectares.

This will generate a strong economic and social impact in the region, attracting around US$ 2.5 billion in private agricultural investment, reaching an annual production value of US$ 2.775 billion, and contributing to the creation of more than 150,000 direct jobs in La Libertad.

Among the infrastructure works, the execution of the 127 km Main Canal along the Moche–Chicama–Urricape section is planned, as well as the implementation of the integral intake system covering the three phases of the project, and the development of the control, measurement, and automation system for the major hydraulic infrastructure.

Likewise, it includes the operation and maintenance of all hydraulic infrastructure of the project (first, second, and third stages), including the Rafael Quevedo Flores Dam (formerly Palo Redondo) and the third line of the Virú Siphon.

Additionally, the project incorporates the provision of regulated water supply services for population, agricultural, and hydroelectric uses within the project’s scope.

Fact:
This contracting is carried out in compliance with the assignment entrusted by the Regional Government of La Libertad to PROINVERSIÓN, to update the technical studies and subsequently promote the new comprehensive concession process of the Chavimochic Project.
