PROINVERSIÓN: Chincha WWTP recognized as a finalist in the 2025 GRI Awards

This project will improve the health and quality of life of more than 345,000 Peruvians and positions Peru as an international benchmark in the use of PPPs to promote sustainable infrastructure projects with high social impact.

Lima, September 19, 2025.- The Chincha Wastewater Treatment Plant (Chincha WWTP) project, structured and awarded by PROINVERSIÓN in January 2025, has been recognized as a finalist in the GRI Awards Infrastructure Andean 2025, the largest award for sustainable infrastructure in the Andean region.

The award, organized by the GRI Institute, recognizes projects and initiatives that contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and have a direct impact on the economic and social growth of countries.

In this edition, the Chincha WWTP project, whose concession contract was signed last July, is competing in the “Water Awards” category alongside initiatives from Colombia and Chile.

With an investment and operation and maintenance cost of US$250 million, the project will benefit 345,000 people in seven districts of Ica (Chincha Alta, Chincha Baja, Grocio Prado, Pueblo Nuevo, Alto Larán, Sunampe, and Tambo de Mora). Its implementation will enable the proper treatment and disposal of wastewater in Chincha, contributing to the reduction of disease and creating the conditions for the development of complementary initiatives, such as the safe reuse of treated wastewater for agricultural purposes.

The executive director of PROINVERSIÓN, Tabata Vivanco, highlighted that “the classification of the Chincha WWTP as a finalist in the GRI Awards is a source of pride for the country because it reflects how public-private partnerships can transform the lives of thousands of Peruvians, boost infrastructure, and make us regional leaders.”

This represents an opportunity for Peru to consolidate its position on the international stage as a country that builds sustainable infrastructure with social impact. Members of the GRI Institute can vote for the project until September 22, 2025, at the following link:

The Chincha WWTP is part of a strategic portfolio of water and sanitation projects managed by PROINVERSIÓN 2025. The total portfolio represents approximately US$2 billion in investment and will benefit more than seven million Peruvians between 2025 and 2026.
