PROINVERSIÓN IS ABOUT TO CONCLUDE THE TECHNICAL STUDY FOR THE CHIMBOTE PORT TERMINAL
Lima, April 10, 2024.- The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) is about to conclude the technical study (formulation) of the Chimbote International Terminal project, which requires an estimated investment of US$ 215 million and is aimed at boosting the economy and foreign trade in the area of influence such as Ancash, La Libertad, Cajamarca, Huánuco and Ucayali.
In addition, as it is a multipurpose terminal, it will be strategic for the development of some agro-industrial projects (Chinecas and Chavimochic) and the fishing industry, as it is specialized in the handling of container cargo. It will also have the capacity to receive 4,500 TEU Panamax and Post Panamax vessels.
Currently, PROINVERSIÓN is preparing the project's Evaluation Report, which includes the resizing of the Self-Financed Unsolicited Proposal (IPA), gap analysis and preliminary risk allocation, consistency with the plans of the National and Regional Government, investment size and cost of operation and maintenance.
In this regard, the director of the Chimbote International Terminal Project, Ernesto Guevara, explained that the formulation phase will conclude with the approval, precisely, of the Evaluation Report and incorporation of the initiative into the process of promoting private investment. "This should happen in the next few weeks and we will move on to Structuring, the concession contract for the project will be drawn up as a PPP and will culminate with the publication of the declaration of interest," he said.
According to the unsolicited proposal, it is planned to build a dock specialized in containers, the expansion and reinforcement of the current pier, operated by the regional port, as well as its equipment and modernization. In the case of the container terminal, it is planned to develop the dredging of the extension of the width of the access canal, turning circle area and operational area of pier 4; the construction of the new container yard; the construction of auxiliary buildings and workshops, and the acquisition of gantry cranes.
