Lima, April 12, 2021.- In the words of the former president of Confiep, Roque Benavides, the next president of Peru must reach an agreement with the country's mining sector to add value to the country's mining resources.
"Peru has been blessed with natural resources and we have to put them in value; and that is the recipe that I hope the next government will carry forward. The mining sector companies must also give value to the projects, most of which are copper projects".
In the same way, Benavides expressed that, according to a study carried out, mining makes a great contribution to the country's revenue. In fact, the executive, who is calling for the valuation of mining resources, stated that this amounts to 35% of the total.
"The mining industry contributes enormously to the functioning of our State; and of course we have to demand investment in good health services, education and broadband. Faced with this, it is not up to those who contribute with tax collection to spend it, it is up to the State", he indicated.
These statements were made in an interview with a local specialized media.
Conga and Galeno shall be released
In addition to expressing his opinion on the valorization of mining resources, the chairman of the board of directors of Buenaventura mining company also gave his opinion on the projects that should be executed.
In this sense, he indicated that both Conga and the Galeno project should be developed "because they make economy of scale and I believe they could be developed".
Likewise, he indicated that Tia Maria should be promoted with emphasis on the contribution it will provide in the construction of reservoirs. For example, in the upper part of the Tambo river basin, between the regions of Puno and Moquegua.
"This will generate more water and will also allow farmers to have better production. I believe that the way to face the project is to say 'Water yes, mine too, and together with Agriculture'".
