November 17, 2021. Lima, Peru.- The Minister of Economy, Pedro Francke, and the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, met to discuss Peru and its productive diversification. "We cannot continue to be a country based on the export of minerals," Francke said.
The dialogue focused on three themes: the need to better understand the global and regional lithium market and its regulatory frameworks.
In this regard, Peru would define a model for the exploitation of lithium in regions. ECLAC invited Peru to join the regional meetings on lithium that it is developing with Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.
The other two issues were the need for tax reform and the need not to rely so heavily on commodity exports.
